MUSE DECOR was founded in 2008 by Kiyomi Chiba in Tokyo, Japan.
The inspiration behind the name MUSE DECOR comes from a very simple concept – that of ‘Simple Rich Life.’
We feel the creation of spaces that reflect simple forms and highlight the richness of natural materials encompasses an entire lifestyle philosophy.
One that considers everything in our surroundings to be more than just pleasing to the eye – but pleasing to our personal sensibilities.
As such, MUSE DECOR is invested in creating interiors that can allow us to feel we can live with ease, comfort and beauty – leaving us internally enriched and refreshed in our everyday lives…it’s our Muse.
Kiyomi was born in Tokyo and grew up in Kamakura, the ancient capital of Japan. Kamakura is home to many old historical temples and Japanese gardens, which were her influence.
Her mother was a Master of the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and she took Kiyomi to the teahouse from an early age, where she learned to appreciate Japanese aesthetics. It is a space completely at one with nature, influenced by Zen spirituality. No unnecessary decoration, just silence, calm and serenity.
After studying Japanese literature at university, she moved to London and studied interior design at Chelsea College of Arts.
Her cultural background is a blend of East and West.
During the first ten years of her career as an interior designer in Tokyo, she took inspiration from Scandinavian styles and worked as an in-house designer for a brand, which has its head office in Copenhagen.
Her designs are functional, aesthetically pleasing and mindful.
She loves to discover hidden aspiration that even her clients are not aware of and reflect them in their spaces.
Kiyomi’s designs hopefully create a happy life for her clients.
